What I Learned at Dior's 2009 Cruise Show

Last night at Gustavino's Dior staged its 2009 cruise show. There were celebrities, Jennifer Lopez, Leighton Meester, Charlize Theron, and Christina Aguilera sat front row. There were high octane gowns, something that is quickly becoming a fixture of any Galliano show. And there was an air of excitement that Dior once again chose New York to stage its resort show.

Most importantly though I learned some important things which I am all to happy too share.

1.Enormous fringe caftans are always a no no, no matter who you are (sorry Andre!) Next time stick with your custom made Valentino caftan, a much better choice in my opinion.

2.It is possible to stage an organized fashion show. No really! If Dior can do it so can you. I was completely impressed with Dior's feat.

3.Nothing says let's hit the beach quite like an oversized colorful sombrero. Well at least Galliano seems to think so.

4.Charlize Theron, who chose a low cut purple dress and yellow Dior shoes is just as beautiful in person as she is in any magazine. I officially hate her.

5.Apparently when Christina Aguilera comes on people are moved to song. Two guys who were sitting next to me couldn't contain themselves and began singing quite loudly along with Christina's Hurt during the show. And when I say loudly, I mean LOUDLY. I later heard that Christina, sitting front row, was also singing along.

6.There are certain people I would like to be for a day, or a year for that matter. Cecilia Dean is one. She was wearing a Rodarte cobweb sweater like she just rolled out of bed and it was the first thing she saw in her closet. Delphine Arnault is another. That may be obvious as who wouldn't trade places with the lvmh heir and perfectly coiffed executive.

7.There are some people who I would not like to trade places with. Wearing a sash and crown in public is awkward I realized as Miss New Jersey roamed about last night. I also realized that there is such a thing as too much Dior. Not naming names but Dior bangles, Dior sunglasses, Dior saddlebag, a logo Dior vest, and full on body glitter should not be worn together. And being at a Dior show is no excuse.

8.Florals are here to stay and they were in force on the runway last night. So stock up on spring florals and be assured you will get a lot of mileage out of them.

9.What I wouldn't give for a pair of chiffon pants. There were two pairs of gorgeous chiffon pants in the show. Wearing a pair would make me feel like Elizabeth Taylor vacationing in Santorini even if I was just lazing around Long Island.

10.I love John Galliano. I mean who else can pull off looking like a swashbuckler in the middle of May in New York? He easily stole the show.

As much as I love Galliano and his flair for drama and showmanship, I have to question how appropriate it is for so much of the focus of the evening to be on him, and not the clothes.
